Victor Papon's Pro Victory: A Dramatic Breakaway at 4 Jours de Dunkerque (2026)

At the end of a second day in the early breakaway, Victor Papon (Nice Métropole Côte d'Azur) staged a massive coup, winning stage 2 of the 4 Jours de Dunkerque ahead of his fellow escapees Maël Guégan, Kévin Avoine, and Daniel Årnes. This time, the chase faltered, with the peloton only catching up seven seconds, leaving the breakaway line behind. Stage 1 winner Laurence Pithie led the way, but the quartet remained unchallenged. As the peloton closed in, the breakaway still held half a minute until 5 km left. Despite losing Hänninen with 3 km, the remaining four riders pushed relentlessly. A crash in the chasing bunch disrupted the peloton, but they managed to close down within 20 seconds. Avoine led out the sprint, but Papon claimed victory as the peloton misjudged its pace.
